ICMA: AHOY Course<\/em> in Manila<\/h1>\n

From 24 September to 2 October 2016, scalabrinian missionaries participated a “Training and Immersion Course” for workers serving seafarers from the philippines<\/em><\/h2>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”5\/6″][vc_column_text]Scalabrinian missionaries<\/strong> participated a Training and Immersion Course<\/em><\/strong> for port welfare workers serving seafarers from the philippines<\/strong>. The course, promoted by International Christian Maritime Association<\/em> (ICMA)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0took place from 24 September to 2 October 2016 in Manila<\/a><\/strong>. It allowed participants to gain a first-hand knowledge of Filipino seafarers\u2019 social and cultural background and other institutions in the Filipino maritime sector.<\/p>\n

Serving with respect<\/h3>\n

Due to the high number of Filipino seafarers who visit port based welfare centres around the world, the course gave ship visitors and port based welfare providers the opportunity to learn more about their world so as to better serve them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs Apinya Tajit<\/strong>, one of the participant as Deputy Director of Stella Maris Seafarer\u2019s Centre \u201cSriracha\u201d<\/em> (Thailand)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0underlined that \u00abthe Ahoy Training was very good for us in order to take good care and understand filipino seafarers, serving them with understand and respect<\/em>\u00bb.<\/p>\n

The AOS<\/h3>\n

Alongside with the meetings the Apostleship of the Sea<\/em> (AOS)<\/strong> celebrated 96th Anniversary in Batangas City, Philippines. Participants spent a solemn evening with the AOS honouring its patron, the Virgin Mary as Our Lady, Star of the Sea.<\/p>\n

The Apostleship of the Sea, known internationally as Stella Maris, was founded in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1920<\/strong> and was approved by Pope Pius XI in 1922. It provides pastoral care to seafarers through chaplaincies in ports in all continents of the world.<\/p>\n
