Letters from Taiwan

Father Li Tingyang, first chinese scalabrinian missionary, tells us about his official entry in the new parish of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Kaohsiung

First chinese scalabrinian missionary, father Li Tingyang was ordained a priest on May 29, 2015. Forty-year-old, he comes from a Catholic family and entered the seminary in China. He has always had the desire to serve migrants.

In this letter, Father Li tells us about his official entry in the new parish of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

On Sunday August 23rd, 2015, I officially became the parish priest of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The holy mass and ceremony of installation were presided by His Excellency Peter Liu, bishop of Kaohsiung. The Church was full with Taiwanese parishioners and Filipino migrants attended the mass.

The installation as parish priest of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal is a sign of unity and a living image of our charism. The local parishioners and the Filipino communities in Kaohsiung collaborated in organizing a beautiful celebration. The parish has become a place where people of different cultures and nationalities meet and share their faith.

Please pray for me and our parishioners as we begin the new journey together. With the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, this parish may increase in number and become a channel of more God’s blessings.

Fr. Li Tingyang CS

The congregation sent him to the mission of Taiwan. The story of Father Li was published on Scalabriniani (july-august issue, pp. 14-15).
